Nambale Farmers Field School (Busia District). 

 

It was founded in 2000, has 33 groups with over 1000 members.  Its establishment was a response to the persistent problem of food insecurity in the area. Member recruitment is ongoing at KSh 100 as the application fee and KSh 300 registration fee per member. They engage in crop and poultry production, conduct merry-go-rounds to raise funds for group operations.  They collaborate with ARDAP, a local NGO and work plans are harmonized with local extension officials to realize prioritization. Plans for 2006 include the establishment of a store for produce to facilitate group marketing and initiation of a credit scheme to improve members’ access to inputs. The group may be contacted through its Chairman at P.O. Box 28, Nambale, Kenya. It maintains a bank account, has a constitution and officials elected after every 3 years.
