Acaaun (Teso) Farmers Movement.
This organization was formed in September 2004, is registered with the Department of Social Services and is intended to serve farmers in Teso District. It is primarily composed of for self help groups (Apokor Women Group, St. Mark WG, Katakwa WG, Kakyenuneos WG and Okuleu Farmer Field School) but is also recruiting individual members throughout Teso District divisions of Angurai, Chakol, Amukura and Amagoro. Presently there are 210 members with component organizations and individuals paying annual dues of KSh 1000 and KSh 100, respectively. The organization has six officeholders elected to one year terms and maintains a small office in Amagoro Town, along the main Nairobi to Kampala Highway. The members of the group seek better access to, and lower prices for improved maize seed and fertilizers, technologies to combat parasitic striga and poor soil fertility and fairer and more reliable markets for their produce.
