Contest entries will be placed on display until the contest is held in the Exhibition Plaza at 1700 hours 18th September.  Participants are encouraged to evaluate the composts using the contestant list (below) and to compare their score to that of the judges.  Composts will be judged on the basis of texture (low mineral content), appearance (dark and uniform), smell (aromatic and mature) and a rapid chemical analysis conducted by the judges.

Entrants must provide a 4 kg compost sample accompanied the Compost Crafts Contestant Form which contains a list of ingredients, brief description of composting procedures and the age of compost.  Each entrant will be provided 1 minute only to describe their composting skills. The contest panel of judges is led by Dr. J.K. Lekasi, Head of the Soil and Water Laboratory of the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute’s National Agricultural Research Centre (Muguga).  Prizes are as follows: First Place 6000: Second Place KSh. 4000; Third Place KSh 2000; Honorable Mention KSh 1000.  Decision of the judges is final and entered composts become the property of FORMAT organizers.  Only one entry per participant is permitted.
