NAME AND OBJECTIVES

 

Name and Definition

FORMAT is registered in Kenya under The Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Act of 1990 as OP.218/051/2003/066/2607. It is a charitable, educational and scientific organization and exclusively Non-political and Non-profit making.

 

Goal, Purpose, Vision and Mission

 

Main Goal: To secure livelihoods for resource poor farmers and innovators through improved resource management, technology development, policy advocacy and networking.

 

Purpose: To improve knowledge sharing and co-ordination amongst stakeholders in natural and organic resource management, agricultural technology development and policy.

 

Mission: Develop a forum for common understanding, interaction and networking in natural and organic resource management, agricultural development and policy advocacy through knowledge sharing amongst development and research institutions, individuals and the private sector.

 

Specific Objectives and Activities

  1. To engage in natural and organic resource management, agricultural technology development and policy advocacy activities in Kenya.

  2. To promote small scale projects on organic resource management and technology development at national and grassroots level.

  3. Publish newsletters, books and other publications from its activities and those of its partners

  4. To train farmers, extension agents, community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, researchers and policy makers on the concepts of organic resource management, agricultural technology development and policy advocacy.

  5. To facilitate exchange of information on experiences and achievements amongst members, individuals and organizations involved in organic resource management, technology development and policy advocacy.

  6. To engage in relevant scientific research

  7. To establish resource centers for innovations and other information in natural and organic resource management, agricultural technologies and policy advocacy.

  8. To identify and reward innovators through award of prizes and certificates

  9. To secure public patents, refine and market products and technologies of inspiring innovators

  10. To raise, mobilize and disburse funds and other resources for the promotion of the objects of the organizations

  11. To engage in any legal activity that enhances the attainment of the goal and mission of the Organization.
